Alphonse – Seychelles
In terms of the ultimate travel experience for a family it is very hard to beat a safari but we might have discovered an experience in the Indian Ocean off the East Coast of Africa that is at least as good…
In October 2024 my family and I were invited to the extraordinary Alphonse Island in the Seychelles. It was a great joy to travel together to an unexplored and new environment (for us) and to experience a special place through the lens of being a valued guest.
The island and marine safari at Alphonse Island in the outer islands of the Seychelles provides a safe, flexible, wildlife rich and activity-filled experience that had us dreaming of returning even before we had left.
Bicycles are the mode of transport on Alphonse – the sandy coconut lined tracks easy to navigate and an adventure all on its own for exploring kids. Minutes after arriving Tom (8) and Anna (5) had disappeared on their fitted bikes and soon after found themselves (with the help of the Alphonse team) face to face with a Giant Aldabra tortoise.
The many activities and wonderful guide team open the natural world to children and adults alike – shearwaters and lemon sharks, trevally’s, triggerfish and terns are literally around every corner or coral head.
The diving at Alphonse is top notch and it might be amongst the finest salt water flyfishing locations on the planet.
It’s a marine wonderland accessed from an idyllic island and expertly run by a warm and expert team who are genuinely caring for their guests.
Alphonse is a private island with only one supremely comfortable lodge accommodating guests in exquisite villas and retreats. The on-island farm provides fresh produce to mix with sustainably caught fish on a daily basis. The Seychellois rum cocktails are served from coconuts growing on the island.
Could this be the leading nature and marine activity focused family experience out there? The Anderson’s think so!
