Conservation in Action – Rhino dehorning in Kruger

Conservation in Action – Rhino dehorning in Kruger

Against the backdrop of the continued slaughter of rhino in Africa and the significant threat posed to the survival of the species, here are some photos to provide insight into a recent rhino dehorning experience I was privileged to be a part of with guests in the Kruger National Park. It was awe-inspiring to see, in person, an operation of this nature – a joint initiative between SanParks, the non-profit organisation StopRhinoPoaching and our safari lodge partner Singita.  Alongside the team, we dehorned three white rhino close to the Mozambique border.  The hope is that these dehorning interventions will ensure the survival of the rhino in the short term at least.  The below images showcase the amazing experience and serve as a reminder that a collaborative effort between safari travellers, tour operators and conservation entities can make a tangible impact to protect our wild spaces and species.
