“Nestled within an enchanting Winterthorn Forest along the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, Old Mondoro embodies the essence of authentic safari elegance — simple, intimate, and effortlessly luxurious. The camp’s setting is breathtaking, with sweeping river views to the front and a serene Winterthorn woodland at its back, creating a perfect harmony between comfort and wilderness.
The wildlife sightings in this part of the park were nothing short of extraordinary. Within the first 24 hours, I had seen everything I’d hoped for — and more. On our very first game drive, we came across two male lions lounging beside a buffalo kill, barely acknowledging our presence. A little later, we encountered a pack of 17 wild dogs, including 10 playful two-month-old pups learning to hunt alongside the adults, a sighting I will never forget.
Elephants seemed to be the stars of the show, wandering gracefully through the golden light of the Winterthorn forest. Watching these gentle giants framed by such ethereal scenery made me feel deeply connected to this place. The following morning brought a beautiful leopard sighting, a large buffalo herd, several mongoose families, and even a pair of honey badgers, always a special treat.
Returning to camp after these thrilling drives was just as memorable. Greeted warmly by the wonderful staff, I’d retreat to my room for a refreshing outdoor shower, then relax on the veranda, reflecting on the day’s adventures while gazing out over the tranquil Zambezi River.
